Summer is here (sorry Southern Hemisphere friends), which for many means some time to get out and travel. Especially after the last couple of years that we’ve had to endure, the urge to see the world – or at least see somewhere that’s not your home and not your computer screen – is moving full steam ahead. Now I’ve seen some of you out there with the confidence of a thousand ancestors just throwing your watches ~naked~ in backpacks or duffle bag pockets like it’s nothing, and to ye who live without fear, I ask just one question in the spirit of Zoolander’s dad in a coal mine:
What the hell’s a matta with you?
Maybe it’s because you haven’t gotten around to finding something to protect your watches during your travels; maybe it’s because you only want to bring one watch at a time with you and most cases you see are for 2-6 pieces; maybe it’s because you’ve seen the prices of watch rolls or travel cases and said, “uh, no;” still yet, maybe it’s because you haven’t really thought about it.
Or maybe none of these are true and you just see yourself as Watch Rambo (…I should trademark that…) and you’re running around with not a care but vengeance on your mind and your watch can take it or leave it. That’s clearly not me for a variety of reasons, so as much as organic wear-and-tear does endear my watches to me, I want to make sure they’re not getting too knocked around during my travels (or multiple movie sequels, should I make it big as Watch Rambo…).
Enter: Clam Cases. It’s literally just a case that, you guessed it, looks like a clam. And that makes sense, given that they zip shut and will protect your watches from just about anything. No frills, no nonsense, no crazy price tag; just a solid, single-watch clam.
Last fall, the kind folks over at Clam Cases sent me a couple of their cases for use and review, and I’ll be honest with you here:
I love them.
Just like I love New England Clam Chowder.
It’s the *clears throat* superior chowdah.
To anyone who claims that Manhattan Clam Chowder is even remotely qualified to be at the same table as New England Clam Chowder: fight me.
For starters, chowder – or, chowdah as it should be said – needs to have a rich, creamy base to compliment the intricate flavors and palette balance that comes with the…
…wait, what were we talking about again…
…OH right, watch cases! Clam Cases! Sorry, got myself in a minor fit over here.
*takes break from writing to secure some chowdah*
Now, where were we?
Clam Cases. They’re simple, they’re study, and they’ll keep you and your watches happy as a clam.
This is one of those things for me where I don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles. At some point I’ll probably be tempted and want that extra bit of class (more on that later), but for my immediate purposes, this type of case works perfectly. I’m a grab-and-go type of person, and so for any travel I’ve undertaken, it’s been so easy to simply pack a watch or two into their little clams and drop them in my bag, ready to go.
Something I also like about them is that they don’t draw attention to themselves; they easily blend in, or straight up disappear, with the other contents of my backpack, as opposed to screaming HI YES HI HELLO I AM HOUSING WATCHES PLEASE TAKE ME. With how much watch values have surged, dipped, and on the whole fluctuated over the last few years, I’m a bit more cautious when it comes to which pieces I bring along for travel and for how long. These cases hide themselves well and give me that little bit of extra security when I’m going to be away from home.
Something else I like about them: they’re between £16.99 – 19.99 depending on the color you choose. A small price – literally – to pay to keep your watches safe on the road, in the air, or even in your sock drawer (no judgement here).
Something I love, not like, love about Clam Cases: they’re a small business, family run, with a personal connection both to the products they create and the watch community as a whole. I’ve been able to chat with their team pretty often, and while rare is the experience in general of having brands respond to your questions/feedback, even rarer is having the founder and owner of the company personally write back each and every time. In a time when it seems like everything can be mass-produced with little-to-no thought or passion, I sincerely appreciate the time and dedication that the Clam Cases team puts into their company.

As always, wherever you are, and wherever you’re going, many thanks for stopping by.
But wait, you may be thinking, didn’t give us a “more on that later” in this article? Is it “later” yet??
Why yes, it is!
Recently, the Clam Cases team has launched a three-watch roll that’s a bit more on the oo la la side of their product line. It looks sleek, it looks stylish, and in line with their branding thus far, it’s got some funky color options to keep life from being too boring. So if you were reading this article and thinking, yeah, okay, that’s cool and all, but I do actually want more than a single-watch storage piece, well, this just makes sense now doesn’t it!
Discount code applies here too, so have at it!
