After a bit of a hiatus, the RedBar Boston group is back and nerding out once more! There have been a couple of events over the last few months to get things off the ground, and recently I was able to attend a meetup and see some pretty incredible watches - many of which I’ve never seen before IRL.
(quick pause for anyone who doesn’t know what RedBar is, have a look!)
RedBar gatherings are set in private spaces, where strangers can’t wander over and see/swipe any watches, and often in settings with low light levels, again to keep from attracting too much attention. Both were true of the last meetup, so my pictures here aren’t going to do everything the justice they really deserve; hopefully, this serves more as some encouragement to get out there and go hang out with some watch nerds!
Without further ado - the RedBar photo dump:
Vintage Zenith El Primero - what a way to start things off.
The OG Tudor Monte Carlo…
…on its OG Rolex bracelet…
…with an especially OG engraving of “Love, The Dummy” on the caseback.
The first mini-layout, include my contributions to the event: 2008 Grand Seiko Snowflake, 2021 Kudmai from The Sacred Crafts, 1972 King Seiko Vanac, 1996 Credor Pacifique, and 2011 Rolex Daytona (Gold Panda).
Yes, that was a Lange in the corner of the last picture. Yes, it was incredible.
*drools*
Possibly the watch I loved the most from the meetup: a 1970s Squale diver with oodles of patina.
The Omega Ultra Deep. Yes, I immediately started singing “How Deep Is Your Love” upon putting it on my wrist.
Always happy to see an Explorer on the table. Someday…
A Sinn!! Often seen online but hardly in real life. What a cool piece.
What a beauty from Vacheron Constantin - just look at that dial.
And that booty!!
First time trying on a Hublot…I was incredibly surprised by how much I liked it. Way too big for my wrist due to the lengthy lug-to-lug, but in ceramic it’s a light piece overall. I get the appeal.
Some beefy boys!! Panerai with the heft.
Beautiful vintage Longines hi-beat.
If a dive helmet were a watch, it would be this one. Such a beast!
This watch actually reacts under UV light. Holy cool.
More booty!
I am SPEED.
Doxa’s always a highlight for me. Just look at that dial!
An MB&F M.A.D 1 out in the wild!! Absolutely mad!
No matter what else is on the table, a Monta is a welcome sight.
Classy OP.
Titanium goodness! Cherry blossom GS.
The “oh you actually are a nerd aren’t you” Rolex. Love the ‘gauss!
And finally, perhaps the deepest cut at the table: an official Grand Seiko loupe. What a time to be alive.
There you have it folks! A tour-de-wrist of some pretty incredible pieces.
As always, wherever you are, and wherever you’re going, many thanks for stopping by.
These pieces are fantastic! I used to work for IWC, Panerai & Jaeger-LeCoultre... this makes me miss it so much. I recently left automotive sales and now I'm considering getting back into horology. The passion of enthusiasts has always been warming. Great read!
